RUN, RIDE, SUPPORT CANCER RESEARCH
Our mantra is “Cancer moves fast and WE have to move faster.” The Huntsman Sports Festival is more than just a fun event, it’s an incredible cancer fighting community of runners, walkers, cyclists, and volunteers who help us move faster by supporting cancer research at Huntsman Cancer Institute.
In 2017, Huntsman Cancer Foundation combined the iconic Huntsman 140 cycling ride with the community-centered Huntsman 5K and Kid’s Fun K to create a single-day event, making the Huntsman Sports Festival the perfect way for anyone join us in our mission to eradicate cancer.
Everyone starts and ends at the beautiful Fort Douglas area of the University of Utah campus, and cheers ring out across Fort Douglas Field as the wheels and feet of friends and family cross the finish line. Celebrate your achievement with everyone at the Finish Line Festival with food, drinks, live music, giveaways from sponsors, games, and a kid’s zone play area.
Participants can invite their friends and families to participate with them and to donate to their personal fundraising web page. 100% of funds raised support cancer research at Huntsman Cancer Institute.
The Huntsman 5K and Kids Fun K is a family-friendly fun run for cancer and has raised over $1 million since beginning in 2014. Huntsman Cancer Foundation is excited to add a 10K trail run to the 2019 event. This chip-timed run begins and ends in the beautiful Fort Douglas area of the University of Utah. Everyone receives a t-shirt at check-in, and participants have the opportunity to raise money to receive other incentives at the event.
The Huntsman 140 is an epic ride through some of Utah’s most beautiful valleys. This road cycling event is a non-competitive, single day, fully supported ride, with multiple distance options that make it the ideal ride for both the beginner and seasoned cyclist. Distance options include 25, 50, 75, 100, and 140 Miles with a relay option for the 140-mile courses.
Why Support Huntsman Cancer Institute
With management of the Utah Population Database (UPDB), Huntsman Cancer Institute houses the world’s largest repository of health and genealogic records in the world. More genetic mutations responsible for inherited forms of cancer have been discovered at Huntsman Cancer Institute than anywhere else in the world. The genes for breast, ovarian, melanoma, head and neck cancer, colon cancer, and more, were all discovered here.
By funding efforts to better understand the beginnings of cancer and more effectively treat cancer, you help relieve suffering and improve the quality of life for cancer patients, survivors, and their families. Cancer patients, caregivers, and donors are encouraged to come together in a myriad of ways to fight cancer individually and collectively through fundraising programs and events like the Huntsman Sports Festival.
